Risk and
Liability Reduction
Services

Is Your Organization at Risk?

Take the pulse of your organization with RY&A's comprehensive risk and liability assessment service. The process will provide independent verification that you are on the right track, or if there are symptoms of any malfunctioning, it will show where you need to check further to take corrective action.

Rhoma Young & Associates audits and evaluates personnel practices and record-keeping systems, serving as a "friendly critic" reducing vulnerability to costly litigation. While we can effectively address any human resource issue, our liability survey focuses on those areas that are the primary focus of possible legal problems. For the past few years, our consultants have been performing similar assessments on behalf of a major insurance company as a part of issuing Employment Practices liability insurance.

The survey identifies areas that may increase your risk and potential employment practices liability. Our consultants perform an overview of your business operations and the organization. We conduct short, discreet interviews with key managers/supervisors and a few employees. We also review written information about your organization, such as a sample job description, select personnel files, your employee handbook, your performance appraisal process, and your leave and sexual harassment policies. Then, drawing upon years of collective experience, we develop a list of cost-effective and workable strategies to lower risk in a summary report.

At the conclusion of the survey, we discuss our observations and suggestions with your management team. While our discussion will probably cover most areas under the human resources "umbrella," the major focus will be on areas that are most likely to affect potential liability. Most legal cases and complaints to outside agencies include employee selection, performance appraisals, discrimination and sexual harassment, promotions and discipline, and terminations.

It is critical to ask the following questions to help determine their level of risk. If you can not answer all of these questions positively and unequivocally, your organization could well benefit from a Risk and Liability Assessment.

1. What moves the organization and its managers closer to their objectives? Where are the barriers and bottlenecks?

2. Do company policies, management, and employee behavior complement each other, or do they conflict?

3. How does the work get done in the organization? Is the work clearly linked to the organization's strategy and goals?

4. Are employees getting mixed messages? Are their perceptions the same as the managers?

5. When problems develop, how are they resolved?

6. What are your organizations major strengths and weaknesses?

7. When changes or innovations in the way your company operates are proposed, how are these proposals evaluated and implemented. Does your organization embrace change?

RY&A's practical, affordable and down to earth organizational health assessments will:
- identify key rough spots and potential liability
- highlight communications issues
- improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of the organization's hiring process
- enhance employee development and retention.

The process is flexible and can easily be designed to focus on any specified area of management concern. Our methods are discreet and can be performed under attorney/client confidentiality.
